Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

Where & When: Auditorium 6 -- Maya Cinemas Salinas @ 9:45pm

What: Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

Who: Me, Janette, and Fernando

Why: Aubrey Plaza's raunchy self and Adam DeVine...oh and Zac Efron, duh!

With plain pretzel and cheese dip in hand, I sat back and watched as Mike and Dave unraveled its first few (and funny) minutes before me.

I must admit, I'm not usually into comedies, so I'll try to keep it real--though that won't be too hard as I actually found this movie hilarious from beginning to end.

I won't waste too much time and space going over the premise of the movie, as the trailer does a pretty good job at doing that. In simplest terms, two crazy brothers have to find decent dates to avoid ruining their sister's wedding...little do they know their dates are just as crazy!

So let's get to what I loved about this movie: Aubrey Plaza, who did a pretty good job in Dirty Grandpa earlier this year. Essentially she's playing a funnier version of the same character from that movie, but I'm not complaining since she was hilarious in that film. She can really let loose, and it's clear she's game to say and do anything in order to make us laugh. Plaza stole every scene she was in--she won't disappoint!

Adam DeVine and Zac Efron do well together. DeVine's expressions make him funnier than he is, but this saves the film at points when it starts to feel a little flat. Efron continues to remind us that he's not just a pretty face but is actually really funny. As for Anna Kendrick, I don't know what it is about her in this movie, but I didn't buy her comedic scenes and enjoyed her the most when she got to play the charming, sensitive girl instead.

The film's premise is very straight-forward. This isn't a thinking person's movie, so if that's what you're looking for, then skip it. However, if you're looking to watch something that's simple, short, and entertaining, you wouldn't regret catching Mike and Dave this weekend. It works as a buddy or date flick, and it stands well on its own as a comedy.
